The rough ride which can result, has led to the units being nicknamed Nodding Donkeys.
They were initially built for use on rural branch lines. However, as of September 2011 they are mainly used on busy commuter routes in the major cities in the north of England, with some also in use on local services around Cardiff and on Devon branch lines. Leyland Bus, built most of the bodies and all feature bus seating as well as bus windows
